All About Psalm 27 The Lord is My Light and My Salvation

Psalm 27: The Lord is My Light and My Salvation Hook: In saying â€Å"man’s chief end is ‘to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.’ But we shall then know that these are the same thing. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him.† Importance of psalm: C.S. Lewis gives a clear example as to why the psalms are so important. To glorify God and to enjoy him through that glorification whether through praise, lament, thanksgiving, or wisdom. Contextual background info: David the author of this Psalm has been pursued by enemies (2-3), shut out from the house of the Lord (4), just parted from his father and mother (10) and subjected to slander (12). He says â€Å"whom shall I fear, the Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? In his grief David is hopeful, for he knows that he can wait upon the Lord. Central idea: Poetic figures give meaning and delight to the psalms because it points to the sanctuary of the Lord. Thesis (answer to my research question): The Sanctuary of the Lord is evident through metaphor, metonymy, anaphora, and other important literary devices. First poetic figure: metaphor v.1: The first poetic figure supports David’s refuge in God. â€Å"The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?† Metaphor is used by David giving a strong connection to God being hisShow MoreRelatedThe Lord Is My Light And My Salvation981 Words   |  4 PagesIntroduction The Lord is my light and my salvation (Ps 27:1), In Psalm 27 David talks about his faith with God. Connection Between Teenage Pregnancy and Socioeconomic Status free essay sample

As a resident of Mississippi for the majority of my life, I have become more familiar with teenage pregnancy than most. In addition, Mississippi was recently the focus of national news with the recent vote to illegalize abortion. T. C. Boyle chooses a debatable subject to write about drawing many discussions about ethics. However, Boyle attempts to bring more light to teenage pregnancy, and gives the reader a different side than commonly assumed about teenage pregnancy. Often assumptions are made about the socioeconomic status of the teenager that is expecting. This has attached a stigma to the female expecting, and categorizing her character and status in society. However, teenage pregnancy is not an epidemic that plagues the people of lower socioeconomic statuses. In the short story â€Å"The Love of My Life,† T. C. Boyle severs the connection between socioeconomic status and teenage pregnancy. At first glance, â€Å"The Love of My Life† appears to follow the same assumptions that connect socioeconomic standards and teenage pregnancy because the two topics are thematically placed throughout the short story. The author purposefully informs the reaer of he class system the characters are categorized in. Boyle begins character development with the description of how in love the couple is by describing how close they are with each other’s families. By doing so the reader learns that China has a typical nuclear family as an only child with expectations of success. Confirmed by Boyle later in the short story he writes, â€Å"She was spoiled, he could see that now, spoiled by her parents and their standard of living and socioeconomic expectations of her class—of his class—and the promise of life as you like it, an unscrolling vista of pleasure and acquisition† (141). This quote characterizes China well, as well as provides the reader with the affirmation of her class status. Jeremy is grouped in with China when the author discusses the socioeconomic status of China. In addition the reader can also make assumptions about the characters’ socioeconomic statues based on the colleges chosen, or rather the talk of colleges and college prep. The common stigma that society places on teenagers who get pregnant is thematically placed through the novel as well. In China’s own words the author recalls a previous statement made by China showing the common assumptions about teenage pregnancy. Boyle writes, â€Å"I will never, never be like those breeders that bring their puffed-up squalling little red-faced babies to class† (139). Breeders, makes the reader not only think of a large number of people because of teenage pregnancy, but people of low socioeconomic status because more people means more mouths to feed and less money. China just like many others take part in attaching this sort of stigma to teenage pregnancy, but this is the moment with the author severs those ties demonstrating to the reader that even someone of China’s status could become part of the percentage of teenage pregnancies. When discussed in class, the question was brought up, â€Å"How can someone educated make such a poor decision like this? Early on in the story China does what the reader expects of someone in her socioeconomic status to be doing. The main character is focused on getting into a good school, and is in the top ten in her class. However, she ends up becoming part of a less desirable percentage on a camping trip with her boyfriend just before they head off to college. T. C. Boyle talks about socioeconomic status and teenage pregnancy in such close context to show that they are not related. Teenagers that come from better socioeconomic backgrounds are just as susceptible to pregnancy as teenagers from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The common mistake that China and Jeremy make in â€Å"The Love of My Life† is that they seem to believe that they are invincible because of their socioeconomic status. The behavior of China makes the reader think that she is even in denial about the entire pregnancy. It seems as if in the mind of China, admitting to being pregnant would in fact make her pregnant. The only person aware of the pregnancy is Jeremy. T. C. Boyle conveys this avoidance in his style of writing as well. The pregnancy is not mentioned first when the author updates the reader on the character’s lives. Boyle writes, â€Å"She was pregnant. Pregnant, they figured since the camping trip, and it was their secret† (140). The drama and focus of the couple’s worries are for the effects on their own lives rather than the pregnancy itself, which is vaguely discussed and hidden. When Jeremy tries to confront China about going to the doctor, â€Å"She wouldn’t respond. Wouldn’t even look at him† (Boyle 140). The reader can see a detachment from China and the pregnancy, and the only emotion that is expressed from her is when she thinks of others knowing she is pregnant. T. C. Boyle chooses to focus the character’s attention on the effects of their lives in order to show teenage pregnancy from a different socioeconomic point of view. By doing so, the author destroys the misconception that teenage pregnancy is only difficult for people of lower socioeconomic status. However, there is a very real pressure that China receives from growing up in a higher socioeconomic status. China is expected to be just as successful if not more successful than her parents, which is what fuels her drive for academic success. China viewed her life as ruined by the pregnancy, and the disappointment from the people who expected something from her was too much to handle. The author emphasizes how devastating it would be for people to find out, â€Å"she told him that she would die, creep out into the woods like some animal and bleed to death, before she’d go to a hospital. With a combination of her detachment from her pregnancy and the pressure to succeed, China and Jeremy make another in a long list of bad decisions, and they get rid of the baby themselves. It was the only decision that kept their secret which they believed would ruin their life. Teenage pregnancy is not something that only effects people of low socioeconomic status and is equally as difficult to deal with. T. C. Boyle chooses a character of higher socioeconomic status to sever the connection between socioeconomic status and teenage pregnancy. They are factors that affect each other in the difficulties that will be faced, but one does not define the other.

Practicing Renaissance Era Topics With Stance Paper

Practicing Renaissance Era Topics With Stance PaperStance paper for Renaissance Faires is an excellent idea. There are lots of fabulous images for your parade, and you want to make sure your picture(s) are well-lit and eye-catching. One of the most common mistakes people make is that they either don't have enough background or aren't taking enough pictures of the more 'interesting' aspects of the Renaissance. In the past, you would find that the subjects of a Renaissance Faire were usually, as you might expect in the medieval times, people and animals. This was largely because of the long periods that it took to do things or to collect the objects that were needed. If you don't consider this, you might be missing out on the most interesting aspects of the era. When I started learning about period paper designs, I found that there are a lot of sites that were really helpful. The first one that came to mind was Digital Renaissance, which I would recommend if you're just starting out. It has some excellent 'how to' videos and an extensive collection of images from some of the most interesting periodicals in the era.The first thing that you need to know about paper designs is that they change dramatically. When I started, I could hardly create anything that I thought looked good at all. After spending some time doing research, I learned that there are many different things that can affect the look of your image. Try to keep that in mind as you go along. If you want to go back in time, you can start by looking through the pages of Renaissance paper designs and see what was the usual way that they represented everything. Go to the styles and get a feel for how things were done. You should also look into using digital resources to help you learn about paper designs. For example, you might be surprised at how many sites have websites that showcase these things. You can quickly skim through the categories, which will give you a general idea of what you're looking for. You c an also find images of the Renaissance era through the internet that you may not have thought about before. In many ways, it's essential to have your own experience in the world of reproduction. So, when you do the research, try to think about what you'd like to emulate. That's the best way to determine what your new creation should look like.As far as painting is concerned, I think that artists who can't take the time to do some in-depth research, will end up having difficulty learning and practicing their art. It's crucial that you take some time to get familiar with the history of Renaissance art before you set out to do any actual work.

Basic Economic Essay Topics

Basic Economic Essay TopicsIf you have decided to write an economic essay, then you should take into consideration basic economic essay topics. Before even attempting to write your own economic essay, you should first be familiar with the different types of economic topics that are out there and also why they are being written. The economic topic is often a very controversial topic among scholars. It may be extremely simple, but it can still prove to be complex and even confusing. The first type of economic topics is the economic analysis essay. This type of essay usually deals with how economic systems affect other systems, such as the political or social systems. Economists do not always agree on this, but most economists would agree that economic analysis is important. An economist may be best qualified to determine whether or not an economic theory of economics is true. Economists in this category usually deal with analyzing certain economic phenomena and determining if they were caused by economic theories.A second type of economic topic is the economic issue essay. This type of economic essay is very similar to the analysis essay, but it deals with some specific issues, such as the threat of terrorism. Although it is a slightly more complicated topic, it can still be an interesting one to work on.Another type of economic essay is the economic regression essay. This topic uses a regression model to evaluate how the economic system works. This is a very general subject and all economists can work with this type of topic. The last type of economic topic is the generalized discussion essay. This type of essay usually looks at general questions such as, 'What is the best way to help create prosperity in the future?'Many of these topics can be a bit tricky to work with. Economists generally agree that every economist should read some books on the subject, as well as speaking to other economists, in order to gain enough knowledge to write an economical essay. Howe ver, not all economists can write a quality academic article on a particular topic. This is why some economists still write essays on general topics, such as the current state of the economy. Economists also consider the next economic debate to be highly influential for changing the direction of the country.

Why Sample of True Narrative Essay Writing is So Essential in College Admissions

Why Sample of True Narrative Essay Writing is So Essential in College AdmissionsIn order to understand why a sample of true narrative essay writing is so essential in college admissions, one needs to learn the reason why this type of essay has become so popular in the academic world today. For many, it seems like this type of essay is being taught in a way that is not teaching any real intellectual value. We've all seen professors who are forced to turn in what would be considered pathetic essays. Most often, they are not even quality essays because they do not use the techniques or strategies of true narrative. One may think that if you need to know how to write a true narrative essay, then you need to come to class and talk about it. After all, you are teaching the class as a professor and so you should teach the students in the same manner you teach the other courses. True, teachers are taught to instruct their students in a certain way. But that doesn't mean that this method shoul d be utilized in all situations.Sometimes the best way to use true narrative is to not allow it to influence the way you teach your students. Students should be able to read the essay on their own without being led through the story. You can show them how to read and understand the essay. By having the teacher draw attention to the content and help them understand, they will feel that they can easily understand what they are reading. If the writer wants to use true narrative in the essay, she should help her students with the same techniques. The reason for this is simple. If the student is able to 'read' the essay on their own, they will then have to understand it more deeply. Once they understand the story, they will be much more likely to remember the main points. The truth of the matter is that the majority of students in the world who take the SATs have never had a chance to read a true narrative essay. Those who attend the private, elite schools don't have the opportunity to com e across such a type of essay in their curriculum. They can only read samples. And this is the beauty of a true narrative essay. Because they don't have the opportunity to read it, they won't understand how you're writing it.Now, if you do decide to use true narrative in your essay, you should be willing to put the format in front of your students. This means that you need to have a brief description of the subject and then outline the main points that you hope will get your students excited. You do this by using imagery and combining paragraphs. The best way to do this is to describe a situation and then give a paragraph of pictures to get your point across. You should combine pictures into two paragraphs and then interweave those paragraphs in such a way that your point will become apparent.By teaching your students how to read and understand a true narrative essay, you will be doing more than teaching them an important technique that will help them excel in their college applicat ions. You will also be helping them to understand what the student admissions writers and admissions officers are looking for in the admissions process. They will be more than just valuable and necessary resources.

Night by Elie Wiesel Courtroom trial (prosecution) for Night by Elie Wiesel. NIGHT PROJECT (3/15/96) * Opening Statement: Ladies and gentleman of the jury, the prosecution team is representing the state of Israel against Mr. Idek. He was a kapo ( a Jew forced to be in charge of other Jews ). He was also in charge of the warehouse for electrical equipment. Mr. Idek has been charged with cruelty to the human race and the murder of a myriad Jews at the nazi concentration camp of Buna. We are here today to prove this man's guilt in his heinous crimes against humanity beyond a shadow of a doubt. The prosecution will provide evidence of Mr. Idek beating the Jews he was in charge of just because he happened to be in a bad mood. We will also prove that Mr. Idek took advantage of and sexually harassed multiple women while in charge of the prisoners at the concentration camp. Eliezer - yes there ( Eliezer points to Idek ). Pro - Eliezer, when were you introduced to Idek? Eliezer - When we reached Buna, the kapos randomly chose us. Pro - What was your first "bad" impression of Idek? Eliezer - When Juliek told us to stay away from him when he had his "bouts of madness". Pro - Did you ever see Idek beat or abuse any of the prisoners? Eliezer - Yes many times, however, two of the most prominent occasions were when he beat my father and I. The first one he beat my father for not working fast enough to suit him atthe time. The second one was when he beat me for simply getting into his way. Pro - Did you ever see Mr. Idek engage in any sexual or rape of any young women at the camp while you were under his charge? Eliezer - Yes, I once walked in on him and a young girl I assume was polish (since the camp had just gotten a trainload of polish Jews). Idek caught me and said, "You wait and see kid . . . . You'll soon find out what leaving your work's going to cost you . . . . You're going to pay for this pretty soon . . . . and now, go back to your place." Pro - Did he ever carry out his threat? Eliezer - Yes, Later during roll call Idek called out, "A-7713!" I stepped forward and he ordered me to lay down on a box he had brought out. I did as I was told and then Idek proceeded to whip me I counted 25 lashes of the whip before I lost conciseness. Pro - Thank -you for your testimony Eliezer. Mr. Wiesel Pro - Mr. Wiesel do you see the kapo that was in charge of you at Buna? Mr. Wiesel - Yes, he's over there ( He points at Idek ) Pro - Were you treated any different because of your older age? Mr. Wiesel - Yes, Idek seemed to take a specific dislike towards me because I was older than most of the men that were in his charge. Pro - Thanks - you for your testimony Mr. Wiesel. Juliek Pro - Juliek do you see the kapo that was in charge of you at Buna? Juliek - Yes, he's over there ( He points at Idek ) Pro - Why were you in the orchestra block? Juliek - I was there because I am a violinist. Pro - Did you ever warn Eliezer and his father of Idek? Juliek - Yes Pro - Why? Juliek - I warned them because Idek had a split personality, he could be in a normal mood and only yell and scream at us or he could get into one of his "maddened fits" and start beating up anyone that even looked at him wrong. Also he was in one of his maddened fits almost as much as not. Pro - Thank - you for you testimony Juliek. Idek Pro
